Mushy Peas

I believe Americans know this as peas porridge from the Nursery Rhyme.  I include this for my daughters in case some day they decide to make them for their Dad.

Whole Dried Peas, soaked overnight, covered by 2 inches of water

Drain and rinse the peas

Put them in a large pot, cover with water
Add:
a pinch of baking soda (I know this is not necessary but this is what Nanny said to do)
1 Tbsp. sugar

Simmer for about one hour until soft.  Add water if necessary.
