Bread Pudding

2 cups dry bread cubes
4 cups milk, scalded
3/4 cups sugar
1 Tablespoon butter
1/4 tsp. salt
4 slightly beaten eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup raisins, if desired

Soak bread in milk about 5 minutes. Add sugar, butter, salt. Pour slowly over eggs, add vanilla. Mix well. Pour into greased 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Bake at 350° in a pan of hot water until set, about 1 hour.
